We are focused on assisting families of individuals with disabilities and communities to grow together through educational trainings and resources encompassing transitional related topics.

 

S.A.L.T. - School to Adult Life Transition Series TM provides resources, free monthly meetings, & event information to families of children with disabilities, caregivers, associated staff or others that are interested in transition related topics.


S.A.L.T. - School to Adult Life Transition Series

S.A.L.T - School to Adult Life Transition SeriesTM originally were created as FREE monthly sessions developed to provide valuable information, along with resources and guidance, to families of children or students with developmental disabilities to help navigate the transition from school to adult life and beyond. 

SALT TALKS - An Online Transition Series

SALT TALKS - An Online Transition Series provides the same basic information and resources as the original "SALT" Series noted previously, but are held on a virtual platform.

SALT TALKS Lunch & Learn

SALT TALKS - Lunch & Learn Series are 60 minute virtual sessions held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month & created to focus on discussions related to  transition topics. It provides the same basic information and resources as the original "SALT TALKS" or Student Series noted previously and are being held on a virtual platform. 


SALT-TEENS

SALT TEENS is a fun series which provides opportunities for students or young adults (ages 14 – 22+) to meet monthly, socialize, & have fun while learning about transition related topics.


Currently, these are being offered during the SALT TALKS Hybrid sessions at the in-person locations.  We are not offering these sessions virtually in 2023-2024.

As your child transitions out of high school, the future can feel very overwhelming and even frightening for families. The S.A.L.T. - School to Adult Life Transition Series™ programs were designed to provide families, caregivers students and staff the support they need through resources, education and knowledge to be able to step into that future transition prepared, and with confidence.

Family Involvement Is a Key to Success

Your participation in the SALT TALKS (S.A.L.T. – School to Adult Life Transition Series™) programs are a vital part to your child’s future success. When families along with S.A.L.T. – School to Adult Life Transition Series™ , personnel and presenters collaborate, we can better meet the unique needs of for your family. S.A.L.T. School to Adult Life Transition Series™ is committed to:


  • Providing a variety of transition topical related educational training and opportunities.
  • Inviting and encouraging family members, caregivers, or staff to participate in regular monthly meetings, communications and related events.
  • Offering online resources, communication and supports for the best continuity of transition progress and understanding.
  • A SALT Leaders Team associated with your area are committed to assisting with guidance, providing resources and supports for families of children with disabilities.


Creating Success for Your Child

The goal for the Students Series is to provide,

but not limited to:

 

  • Increased confidence, independence and advocacy skills needed for adulthood.
  • Successful participation in the student session (online or in person) will assist with further social skills, social interaction, continued transition training and interactive fun with peers! 
  • Student participation will assist with networking vocational and community connections useful during transition. 
  • Preparation before, during and after transition which will support and lead to a bright future of integrated, living in the community.

Presentations and guest speakers focus on specific transition related topics making it understandable for families or caregivers.

What happens during a SALT TEENS Session?

SALT TEENS - A Student / Young Adult Transition Series is a  fun, interactive and creative class geared to bring awareness about self-advocacy, independent living and other transition related topics to students or young adults with disabilities. These sessions are organized and facilitated by the local County Board or a third party guest organization.


The SALT TEENS Sessions often mirror the parent SALT TALKS sessions, for example:

SALT TALKS SALT TEENS
Guardianship Through Supported Decision Making How do I make a good decision?
Navigating Social Security How do I spend money wisely?
Pathways to Community Employment What do I need to know to get a good job?
Special Needs Trusts or STABLE Accounts How do I save money wisely with out affecting my benefits??

Who Is Eligible to Attend a S.A.L.T. – School to Adult Life Transition Series™?

Criteria for families, students or other participants attending a S.A.L.T. Series session:

All families or anyone interested in learning more about transition related topics and the available resources in order to support their child’s transition success.
Have an interest in connecting with experts regarding transition related topics.
Any staff or interns seeking to learn more about transition, resources and other support for their families or clients.
Eligibility for other services are not required to attend the S.A.L.T. Series.
Students must be at least 14 years old or older to attend the student sessions. If attending an in person session, when offered, students should have a parent, guardian or responsible adult attending the in person adult S.A.L.T. session held at the same time. (applies to in person sessions only)

S.A.L.T. – School to Adult Life Transition Series™ & SALT TALKS - An Online Transition Series are free learning opportunities made available to interested participants including families, caregivers and staff.
